Fumbling with Flavs Henry's Fork Anglers

During summer when hatches start to trail off, trout start to key in on terrestrial patterns and refusing mayflies and other Spring dry fly patterns. Rene Harrop's CDC Water Wasp not only mimics a wasp, but also mimics ant-like terrestrials. This pattern works great on the Missouri River and other flatwater fisheries. The CDC and biot wing gives the fly enough float to stay on top while the abdomen breaks the surface film and mimics a ant or wasp struggling to escape the water.

The D&D Cripple is a true hybrid with body that is blinged out and protected with wire like a nymph pattern and everything else is natural like a perfectly delicate crippled dry fly pattern. Rene Harrop developed this fly as an emerger pattern and it's the perfect pattern to fish 24 inches behind your main dry fly and let it sit just subsurface. If you are seeing fins but not full heads they are most likely eating the emerger.
